Explore sumi-e, the ancient art of Japanese ink painting. Learn the history of this art form and how to use the special painting tools. Paint subjects from nature using simple brush strokes. Individual instruction for students at all levels.
No previous painting experience needed.

Sumi-e Midwest is a branch of the Sumi-e Society of America. The national society was founded in1963 by Professor Motoi Oi, and the Midwest Chapter was organized in l982. The purpose of both groups is to foster and encourage an appreciation of Asian brush painting techniques and  to serve as a cultural bridge between East and West.

Sumi-e

Explore sumi-e, the art of Japanese ink painting. Beginners will learn to use traditional equipment and techniques used to paint classical nature subjects such as bamboo, chrysanthemums, and plums. Instructor: Mrs. Kay Thomas
